Directing Actors

The most powerful weapon that a director has to transmit his film’s humanity is the actor. However, directors are not usually taught how to deal with actors. To efficiently work with an actor, the director will learn how to identify what makes the actor tick, how he or she works, and what it is that inspires him or her to be creative. This workshop will teach the director to understand the actor’s language, individual technique and to appreciate his or her creative input. You will work one-on-one with an actor, finding ways to create a character together. During the practical work with the actor you will learn to appreciate the actor’s needs, the difficulties that they may face, and how to better communicate to them your own needs and difficulties. This way you will become an ally with the actor on set.
